It’s always refreshing to find a young adult novel which will appeal to the older teenage boy. DESERT FIRE by H.M. Prévost is a tense espionage thriller that will draw in the attention of that hard to reach teenager. The suspense builds into an exciting climax which makes the book hard to put down. I got involved in the story quickly and had to finish it the same day. The setting in the United Arab Emirates was a refreshing change and gave nice glimpse into another culture. Recommended young adult novel ages 13-18

Desert Fire is a fast-paced thriller that will keep readers eagerly turning pages to learn the fate of Nick Chevalier, a seventeen-year-old kid who is thrust into a world of intrigue and danger. The characters are richly drawn, and the Middle Eastern setting is detailed and unique, giving readers an in-depth cultural experience. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an action-packed read.

I enjoyed reading Desert Fire by H.M. Prévost. The Middle Eastern setting is sultry, exotic, and authentic, and the ‘fish-out-of-water’ protagonist—seventeen year-old Nick Chevalier, — is a brave and inventive kid everyone can relate to. The action is non-stop, the villains are edgy, and the author’s skill at introducing high-tech gadgetry, make this an adventure all readers will enjoy, particularly those hard to satisfy boys.

I had to suspend disbelief a lot. From the moment Nick, a newcomer and a Canadian, jumped into a Hummer with Arab kids he didn’t know, I kept wanting to say, “Dude! Think this over! You’re new here and don’t even speak the language!” But he kept doing stuff like that so finally, I just went with the flow because the description of the country and its citizens made me want to keep reading. The author has obviously lived a long time in the Arab world and loves it. Very nice read.
